This website is designed to help California’s energy sector (utilities, regulators, consultants, and researchers) make sense of climate projections and apply them confidently to resilience planning. Whether a visitor is new to climate data or an experienced analyst looking for a specific technical detail, this site brings together the science, guidance, and tools needed to work with the Analytics Engine’s climate datasets.

The Scientific Guidance section introduces the fundamentals under the General Climate Guidance section: what climate projections are, how global climate models and downscaling work, and key concepts. It also includes a set of guiding principles for working through a climate data analysis from start to finish, and practical answers to common questions users encounter when applying climate data to real-world decisions. This section also houses topical climate science pages, including climate profiles, global warming levels, and uncertainty, for users looking for guidance on a particular subject area.

The Data Catalog is the best starting point for understanding what climate data is available on the Analytics Engine and how it’s organized. From there, the Data Access Methods page outlines the many ways to retrieve data so users can choose the approach that best fits their workflow.

The Reference Library brings together foundational project references, including Cal-Adapt methods papers and external literature relevant to the Analytics Engine’s data and approach.
Need deeper technical analysis? Utilize the Analytics Engine.
For users looking to conduct detailed technical analyses, cloud-based Jupyter notebooks and the climakitae Python package are being developed for the Analytics Engine JupyterHub to work directly with downscaled climate data at scale. The JupyterHub is only available for energy sector users, but the underlying code for the notebooks is publicly available via the project’s GitHub repository.
